About this LARP
This LARP is about making the best out of a bad situation. It's about human interactions, conflicts, love, ambition, war and peace - it's about writing history in the small ways and the big.
The Cellardoor provides the framework for the destinies of the people left behind by the war, their stories and dreams - and how the shift from war to peace turns everything upside down.
New possibilities and power structures will emerge from the ashes of what once were, and the ones who return from the front, will not return to the same place they left.
What to expect?
The LARP will begin on Friday April 11th. You will arrive between 14.00 and 16.00 for check-in, briefing and a relations workshop. After you've checked in, you will be shown to the offgame floor. If you have bought a sleeping spot, this is where you'll be sleeping. There are 3 big rooms, but depending on the number of signups, you might have to sleep tight. The safety room is also on this floor.
After you've checked in and unloaded your stuff in the offgame area, you will attend the obligatory safety briefing at 16.00, followed by the relations workshop. At 17.00 you should be done with the workshop, and will be sent upstairs to change into your costume. The doors to the ingame area will open at 18.00.
When the bar closes at 04.00, the ingame area will close again. You are of course welcome to go to bed earlier, should you want to turn in early. Everyone will be ushered upstairs when the Cellardoor closes, to sleep. Saturday will start off late, due to the late nature of the ingame hours. There will be a downtime workshop at 16.00 where the players will determine with a game master and each other, what their characters have been up to during the day, before returning to the Cellardoor.
As previously, the ingame area will open at 18.00 - 04.00 on Saturday, at 23.00 the orgas will announce the end of game, and the afterparty begins. Sunday morning there will be brunch at 11.00, directly followed by a de-briefing. We will begin packing and cleaning right after, so that we can vacate the premises at 14.00.
The characters
Needless to say, we can't promise everyone their dream role, although we will certainly try our best. No matter what role you get, they are all interesting in their own way and have their own story. When you've signed up and casting is over (at March 31st at the very latest) you'll receive an e-mail with your character sheet. On it you'll find a short description of your role along with a list of their ingame relations. When casting is done the list of roles will be published in the facebook event and you are more than welcome to reach out to other characters, and pregame your relations. There will also be a short relations-speed-dating workshop Friday night before we go ingame.
This LARP is supposed to be a glimpse of history featuring the stories of the abandoned in the midst of the war, therefore a lot of the roles are minorities that for one reason or the other, are not overseas. There will likely be more female presenting roles in this LARP than male - men were drafted and very few got to stay behind.
However, this doesn't mean you can't apply for a male presenting character, or that you as a male-presenting person aren't allowed to play a female-presenting character. As long as you embrace your character in a serious manner.
This LARP is set in a time where inclusivity and diversity weren't a natural part of society, and thus it will feature themes like racism, anti-semitism, fugitives, feminism, sexism, oppression and LGBTQIA-phobia. Be advised of this before you sign up.
HOWEVER! Our code of conduct still stands, and as a general rule, if you want to play on these themes with someone, always ask them first, never assume.
